Optos: Wide Field Retinal Scan can capture a retinal tear even in patients without symptoms.

I used to get my eyes dilated almost every year. Recently I switched to Optos to avoid having to be dilated. Optos has been a game changer for patients and doctors. We can catch hidden retinal issues in patients that have no symptoms.

Just yesterday we saw a patient who had a clear retinal tear in his right eye even though he had NO symptoms. Likely the symptoms would have developed and a retinal detachment could have ensured. Some doctors may have even missed this on a dilated exam.

This patient also has an arteritis or inflammation along a blood vessel which will also need to be assessed for an autoimmune disease, such as sarcoidosis.

I recommend an Optos every year.
