Many patients have a chronic complaint of eyelid crusting, eyelid redness, discharge, irritation, itchy.
Often these symptoms are due to Demadex mites on the eyelids and eyelashes that can cause this localized inflammation/dermatitis, which is inflammation of the skin.
For those that have this frustrating condition, searching for a remedy that relieves symptoms can drive one almost crazy.
The best treatments to date depend on one’s skin sensitivities. They include from least expensive to most:
1. Low inflammation diet (free of gluten, sugar, dairy, pesticides)
2. Avoid detergents, chemicals other than below if skin can tolerate:
3. Diluted Tea Tree Oil or wipes with dilated TTO (ie Optase Wipes or Cliradex)
4. Hypochlorous acid (ie Avenova)
5. Ointments at bedtime to suffocate mites:
Coconut oil
Manuka Honey
Mineral oil
Erythromycin ointment
Steroid-antibodies ointment but long term steroid increase risk of cataract & glaucoma.
Wipe these off completely in morning.
