Medications Increasing Risk of Narrow Angle Glaucoma Risk: what medications to avoid if you have narrow angle

 

if you were diagnosed with narrow angle, it is important to check your medication's to make sure none of your medication's increase your risk of narrow angle closure attack which can lead to vision loss. Once the laser iridotomy is done, these medication's usually can be taken without increased risk of angle closure. Ask your eyes doctor or surgeon. MEDICATIONS ASSOCIATED WITH ANGLE CLOSURE Categories: Sulfa derivatives Anti-cholinergics Adrenergics Anticoagulants Especially: • acetazolamide • topiramate • hydrochlorothiazide • ipatropium bromide • antihistamines (e.g. promethazine) • TCA antidepressants (e.g. imipramine) • SSRI anti-depressants (e.g. fluoxetine) • botulinum toxin • tropicamide • scopolamine • benzodiazepines • vasal ephedrine • phenylephrine • epinephrine • salbutamol • heparin • Coumadin (warfarin) • clopidogrel • daratumumab Monoclonal antibody Medications, such as Topomax, Norflex (orphenadrine) and Artane (trihexyphenidyl) have been associated with angle closure. Many medications used for depression can have adverse effects in patients with narrow angles: including selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) such as Prozac (fluoxetine) and Paxil (paroxetine).
